Fr. Simeon Lourdel( Mapeera)
Mapeera was born on December 20, 1853 in Dury, a very small town in the province of Ars in Northern France. His very pious parents, Albert Charles and Esther Lourdel were farmers. They had him baptised soon after his birth and named him Simeon. The name Mapeera was given to him by the people of Buganda where he ministered as a missionary. He was raised on his parents' farm along with siblings, Ernest, Valery, Clement and Charles. Ernest became a priest and later a monk.
Mapeera joined the preparatory seminary at the age of eight and it was here that he received his first Holy Communion on May 25, 1865.
